Harrison & Moberly, LLP is pleased to welcome Michael P. Shanahan who joins the Firm as an Of Counsel attorney.
Mr. Shanahan focuses his practice in automotive law. He started in the automotive business in 1993 working for Bob Rohrman at Indy Honda as a finance director. In 2002, he left the dealership and finished his accounting degree. Mr. Shanahan obtained his undergraduate degree from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University in Indianapolis graduating at the top of his class. He was honored as the Chancellor’s Scholar. He worked as a consultant/accountant at K.B. Parrish & Co., LLP, while finishing his undergraduate degree. He then obtained a law degree at the Robert H. McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis. Upon graduating from law school, he took employment at a mid-sized Indianapolis law firm.
Mr. Shanahan has experience in nearly every area of automotive law. He was instrumental in helping Indiana automotive dealers implement the Cash for Clunkers program. He obtained a favorable ruling against the BMV and handled a case of first impression establishing the rights of automotive dealers regarding certificates of title and ownership. He has successfully represented automotive dealers in incentive and warranty audits, has handled IRS audits, has regularly represented automotive dealers on various attorney general complaints and actions such as document fee and spot delivery cases, has handled regulatory matters such as title affidavit, plate log, title delivery and interim plate concerns, and regularly assists automotive dealers with state licensing issues before the Dealer Services Division of the Indiana Secretary of State.
Mr. Shanahan will serve with Bill Ivers in Harrison Moberly’s Auto Dealer Legal Services Group.
