Rusnak elected to tax organization

Michael J. Rusnak, Carmel, a partner with the law firm Harrison & Moberly, LLP, Indianapolis, has been elected to the American College of Tax Counsel. Membership to the Counsel, which is based in Washington, D.C., is by invitation-only, and is limited by experience, reputation and by region.

The American College of Tax Counsel maintains approximately 700 members in the United States, of which only ten are currently from Indiana.

About the College: The American College of Tax Counsel is a nonprofit professional association of tax lawyers in private practice, in law school teaching positions and in government, who are recognized for their excellence in tax practice and for their substantial contributions and commitment to the profession. The purposes of the College are:
To foster and recognize the excellence of its members and to elevate standards in the practice of the profession of tax law;To facilitate scholarly discussions and examination of tax policy issues; andTo provide additional mechanisms for input by tax professionals in development of tax laws and policy.

The College is composed of Fellows (approximately 700) in number chosen by their peers in recognition of their outstanding reputations and contributions in the field of tax law, and is governed by a Board of Regents consisting of one Regent from each federal judicial circuit and two Regents at large.

A former lawyer with the Internal Revenue Service, Mike Rusnak has extensive experience representing clients before the IRS and the Indiana Department of Revenue in civil and criminal tax matters. He is a Past Chair of the Taxation Sections of the Indianapolis Bar Association, the Indiana State Bar Association and the IRS Central Region Bar Liaison Group. Mike Rusnak is a frequent speaker and presenter on IRS procedures.

Mike Rusnak and his family have resided in Carmel, Indiana for the past 30 years. He is a Past President of the Carmel Economic Development Commission.

This was not an appointment I was actively seeking, but when called upon to serve, it is something I need to do on behalf of the other tax lawyers in Indiana and Harrison & Moberly."
