One of our colleagues, equity partner Dick McOmber, recently enjoyed what he called the vacation of a lifetime. In the first part of August of this year, he was able to accompany the Butler University Men’s Basketball Team on an 11 day trip to Australia. Dick is a Butler alum and is big supporter of Butler basketball. He was thrilled to get this opportunity to spend all this time in Australia with the coaching staff and players.
Dick said, “If you want to know what the Butler basketball team is really like, just do this. Take every good thing that you read and hear about the Butler basketball team, and multiply it times 10. That’s what these guys are like.”
Dick experienced many great adventures with the team in Australia. In addition to seeing them play 4 exhibition games (3 against Australian professional teams and 1 against the Australian Olympic team), Dick and the Butler players spent 5 days in Sydney. “It was the most beautiful city I have ever seen,” said Dick. During their time in Sydney, the group took a walking tour through the Sydney harbor, visited a wildlife park, a maritime museum, and ate at many of the city’s fine restaurants. After a 1 day trip to the Australian capital city of Canberra to play the Australian Olympic Team, Dick and the team then flew almost 1,000 miles north to a resort city called Cairns, just off the northern tip of the Great Barrier Reef. There Dick and the players enjoyed many other fine dining experiences and also visited an aboriginal cultural park and took a walk through the rainforest, in the mountain range that is just a couple of miles inland from Cairns. On their last full day, the group took a ferry boat out the Green Island and spent several hours swimming in the Great Barrier Reef.
Our firm will once again this year be a sponsor of Butler University Athletics and will, among other things, have season tickets to Butler’s home men’s basketball games. The firm is proud to have sponsored Butler University Athletics for several years.
